Common sporting injuries may include:
Pain on the bottom of the heel, frequently noticed on first standing, caused by a process of micro tears of the support structure of the foot (Fascia).
Knee Pain and Patella Tracking Problems
A feeling of discomfort behind the patella (Knee Cap) due to increased friction against the femur (Leg Bone) which may be attributed to poor foot posture.
Posterior Medial Stress Syndrome (shin splints)
A stress reaction against the inside border of the shin bone or tissue reaction where two muscles from the foot attached. Read our blog post on shin splints.
Postural and Gait Issues
If sporting achievement is your passion or profession then you shouldn’t wait until you have had an injury. Prevent injury by making an appointment for a consultation today. A footwear analysis can ensure that you are giving your feet, lower legs, knees and spine the right support. We can offer you prescription sports shoes and/or ultra-light orthotics to prevent injury, if medically required.
Stress Fractures
These fractures often occur in the lower leg and foot when the load on the bone exceeds beyond the physical capacity of that bone.
Posterior Tendon Dysfunction (Back of leg)
A tendon pathology on the inside of the ankle leading to the foot to collapse.
Illiotibial Band Friction Syndrome (ITB)
A common cause of lateral (outside) knee pain amongst athletes.
Compartment Syndrome
A swelling or build-up of fluid creating pressure within the muscle group of the lower leg.
You will reduce the chances of injury if you wear appropriate shoes. Remember, sports shoes may need to be replaced every 3-6 months in some instances, depending on your use. Avoid blisters with the correct fitting sports shoes.
Sports activity can also be responsible for skin infections such as Athletes Foot
Tinea pedis affects about 15% of the population. Symptoms include scaling and flaking or softening and whitening of the skin on the feet and in particular between the toes. Secondary bacterial infection can lead to itchiness or unpleasant odour. Ensuring proper drying and aerating of the feet, with appropriate foot care routines and shoe selection can sometimes resolve the issue. Cure times and probability is increased with the use of topical medicine.
